Jeff Bethea received the Excellence in Communications award as a token of appreciation and good faith of the department in the values and endeavors in which he has set forth and pursue. Such an honor and recognition serves as an indication of the impression and impact that can be achieved through dedication and passion. Hence, for him it stands firmly as incentive to continue to strive for exploration, experimentation, and betterment within the field of media and creative industries.
After studying abroad at Queensland University of Technology for one year, Jeff developed a strong interest in the possibilities yielded by audiovisual and interactive digital media. His senior thesis focuses on various technological advancements and how they are consistently transforming and increasing immersive experiences in the entertainment industry. To demonstrate this, Jeff is working on a creative project for manipulating sound and visuals that incorporates a motion-sensor, camera, audio interface, guitar, EEG headset, and projections. The challenge and objective of this project is to integrate these elements with one another seamlessly enough so that they are organized, presentable, and function efficiently yet retain noticeable autonomy in how they affect the end result.
Having recently established a few connections in the field of theatre, Jeff’s post-graduation plan is to continue the pursuit of learning and implementing new digital media in order to create and further push the boundaries of interactivity and live performance. However, the current ultimate goal is to master the art of sound design for video games.
