This semester for my internship I worked at the Communications Solutions Group in Jenkintown. Most of what I did was behind my computer at my desk (I had my own desk which I loved) but some things were out in the world or in my boss’ office with her, such as conference calls. I had the opportunity to write several press releases both for print and TV which I thought was very valuable, if for no other reason than the PR class that I am currently taking. I also did a lot of online searches for my boss for certain kinds of publications which she was looking for in order to pitch a story to them. Probably my biggest accomplishment was last week when I was taken along to a client’s restaurant to get some information so we could help publicize the place. I ended up drafting up the first copies of the press release which my boss told me was very good work. This experience has helped me realize how thankful I should be about my writing talents. I also had my first experience with working for someone who I really do not like. I’ve only had a few jobs before but I have never had my direct boss be someone who I disliked. If this were not an internship and were a paying job, I would actually be evaluating whether or not I should continue here because I am really not very happy. I do feel as though the situation might just be based on my feelings towards my boss and I am not going to let it stop me from pursuing other jobs in communications and even PR. Overall, I do feel that my time here was useful for both myself and the firm, I believe I helped with certain things that they did not have the time to do themselves or did not want to do, and I got a lot of material for my personal portfolio of work experience.
