This semester I interned at Ceisler Media & Issue Advocacy, a public relations and issue advocacy firm with offices in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and Pittsburgh. While working in the Philadelphia office in Center City, I was able to connect with a diverse range of clients spanning the local and national levels. Gathering news clippings for a multinational food and beverage company, following up on press releases sent to local news stations, and attending outside political events were all part of my weekly tasks. I’ve had the chance to hone my research and writing skills as well as attend a lecture by New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand that explored the issues women face in the workplace today.
While each of my individual tasks has been quite varied and interesting, I think the most valuable accomplishment I will take from my experience is the confidence I’ve gained in myself and my work. Being allowed to work independently on a variety of issues has strengthened my skills and made me more fully capable of approaching and tackling problems on my own. This confidence and ability will no doubt continue to grow as I take on new experiences and I feel I am be much better equipped to pursue a career in media and communications that I will love.
